Our School History

Kuwait National English School is a private co-educational non-profit making organization, offering classes from  Pre School KinderHeart, KG up to entrance to university, which IGCSE and A/S and A2Levels.
KNES is fully accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools) and by NEASC (North England Association of Schools and Colleges). KNES has been recently commended for excellence in its Five Year Report.

KNES takes a pride in being the only British School in Kuwait to be a member of the Associated Schools Projects UNESCO which aims fall in line with KNES school philosophy and mission statement.
KNES is also a recognized centre of examinations from UK from 1996 and a member of BSME (British Schools of Middle East)
The school is recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education in Kuwait.
Originally the school was located in Surra, a residential area, and then moved in September 1995 to larger premises located in central Hawally, which have been totally renovated with top rate facilities.
Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador to Kuwait at that time, His Excellency, Mr. William H. Fullerton officially opened the new premises on the 10th June, 1995.
The School theatre was named Al Farabi theatre to pay homage to the famous scientist, philosopher, writer, poet of the 10th century Arab World.
The school had the privilege to be visited for two days at the end of May 1998 by Mr. Symonides, Director of the Division of Human Rights, Democracy and Peace UNESCO Paris while we are teaching Human Rights within the School, as 1995 -2004 is the United Nations world decade for Human Rights Education. On this occasion KNES celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 24th May, 1998. This remains a date in the school’s history.
The school is always seeking ways of improving, learning and teaching. This is obvious with the standards of our students and the significant improvement in our results with External Examinations from UK with 70% of A* to C in Math and Sciences.
Facilities are always upgraded such as Sports facilities (a full size gymnasium  ,  an Olympic style swimming pool indoor, a covered  international size basketball area etc..), an up to date center with the  Omar Sciences and Technology Center, the recent Center for Performing Arts( music and art).  More recently WIFI connections were installed in all classes in all departments. The Early Years Department with its extension the KinderHeart Preschool in September 2005 has a lovely garden and a separate entrance and a covered separate safe playground.
The campus has 3 large playgrounds with covered areas, a large theatre and a canteen for students and staff called Gourmet Corner, and a well documented media center.
We are proud about the comments made in May 2010 by the CIS and NEASC Five Year Visit about the high quality of the school, the enthusiasm of the administration, teachers and students and the success of the school in meeting the Accreditation Boards Standards in all areas.
