SEN Achievement Awards - 2006 (striving for excellence) Kuwait National English School believes in 'Education for All'. It was obvious that the SEN Dept has worked very hard at putting this into practice at their SEN Achievements Awards Ceremony that was held on Sunday 21st May. The evening is to honor the students in the Special Educational Needs Dept for their outstanding progress made throughout the year. It was an evening filled with music an excitement as the students received their awards not only in the area of academic growth but also for personal and social development. Parents were entertained on this evening by songs performed by the SEN children. It was an event that will be remembered by all with very fond memories. Below are some pictures of this evening:

Year 6 to Year 7 ...... On Tuesday 16th May a special evening was held at the school to guide students moving from Primary into the Secondary department. This event was well attended by staff from both departments as well as students and their parents. Madame Chantal Al Gharabally, the Director would like to thank all staff who were involved in the organisation of this evening. She would also like to thank the students from Year 7 who attended this event in order to share their personal experiences and to assist the current Year 6 students who will be moving into the Secondary school in September. UNESCO presentation at The Sheraton Hotel We have just received the results from the Competition organized by UNESCO on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations: commemorating the millennium Development Goals : English Essay Writing . The results were as follows :

Environmental Project - UNESCO Students in Year 8 Science group have been investigating waste in the environment with their Teacher Mr Simon. They have been looking at the importance of recycling waste products in order to help with the protection of habitats and preserving the environment for future generations. International Day On the 24th of April the school held its annual "International Day" in the School Theatre; it was a day for students and teachers to learn about other countries around the world and experience the diversity of their cultures and traditions. Staff Training Professional Development An in service day was held at school on Thursday 26th January for all academic staff. It was an opportunity for members of staff to attend short seminars which were presented by other members of staff which were in areas of interest to them as educators. The seminars included "Understanding ADHD", "Teaching Gifted Students", "Dealing with Cultural Diversity in the class" and "Classroom Management". The school believes greatly in staff development as a means of providing the best possible education for its students. Days such as this provide teachers with an opportunity to share their knowledge with their colleagues.

Parents, staff and friends were greatly entertained on Saturday 17th Dec with a concert presented by the SEN Department. Complete with colourful backdrops and costumes, students sang songs in both English and Arabic. Madame Chantal Al Gharabally stated that each child had the right to be educated and that the school is proud to provide an education for all children. Madame Chantal thanked all of the staff, teaching assistants, physiotherapists and speech therapists who had proved through this fantastic performance their dedication, commitment and hard work. Shaab Leisure Park Field Trip A field trip was organised last Wednesday for all Secondary students to visit the Shaab Leisure Park. Students enjoyed the day where they experienced the excitement and all the fun of the fair. It proved a wonderful break also for the form tutors of the students who also enjoyed taking an active part on some of the rides. Below you can see some pictures that were taken on this day:
Kindergarten & Reception Concert On Tuesday evening the Kindergarten and Reception classes entertained parents, siblings , friends and staff with a fantastic winter concert. It was an event full of colourful costumes and decorations with lots of singing and dancing. The audience were amazed at the talents of these very young children as they performed on stage, many for the first time ever. The evening was concluded with a "Grande Finale" featuring all students from KG and Reception singing in both English and Arabic. Madame Chantal Al Gharabally the School Director would like to thank her dedicated teachers as well as the parents whom without their support and involvement such wonderful moments in the lives of these children would not be possible. Donations for the Pakistan relief effort On Tuesday 22nd November a group of Year 9 students from the school visited the Red Crescent Society to give a donation of funds raised by the students to aid in the relief effort in Pakistan. The students were given a tour of the facilities and were thanked for their generosity to a country in such great need.
Farewell Dinner for Ms Ellie
Ms Ellie pictured centre with Madame Chantal and the teachers Staff Members of the school were invited by the Chairman and Director to attend a farewell dinner to say goodbye to Ms Ellie and her husband Trevor. Mr Trevor Payne was a member of the Board of Trustees and Ms Ellie has held the post of Personal Assistant to the Director for the past ten years. Madame Chantal expressed her deepest gratitude for the loyal service that Ms Ellie has given to the school. "Ms Ellie has served the entire school community with devotion and high professionalism" said Madame Chantal and that the gifts that were presented to her were very modest compared to what she gave to the school through her years of service. It was a moment of intense emotion which was shared by everyone on the occasion.
60th Anniversary of the United Nations School Assembly A special Assembly was held in the school theatre today 24th October to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations which was established on 24th October in 1945. This organisation which is working to establish peace, support and development through international co-operation also aims at liberating people and nations from fear and poverty. Members of the United Nations now operates in 191 countries which is the majority of the world and they are working together through the United Nations and its different organisations to solve international disputes, protecting Human Rights and fighting fear, poverty and sickness. All members, big and small, rich or poor with their different political opinions, their different social systems can express themselves and participate in peace-keeping, supporting development for the benefit of its nation and others. Gurgian Night at KNES On Wednesday, October 19th the school hosted their annual Gurgian Nght. It was a night with lots of activities and entertainment including a talent show, Quran competition and traditional Arabic music. There were also rides for the younger children including a fun slide and bouncy castle as well as face painting. For the teenagers who attended there was an indoor football and motorized buggies. The event also had a wide variety of food, drinks and sweets to enjoy. The night was concluded with a bag of candy and a small gift being given to all children who attended. It was an evening enjoyed by all and an excellent way to celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan. Below some pictures from the event:

School Assembly Wednesday 24th September was the first formal assembly of the academic year 2005/2006 for the secondary students which was conducted by Madame Chantal Al Gharabally the School Director. It was the occasion for the School Director to recall the Mission Statement and the Philosophy of the school. The positive impact of the Code of Conduct was also explained and Madame Chantal emphasized the importance of attendance, punctuality, responsibility, respect and tolerance and that there was no time to be wasted by any student which is the utmost importance and the key to success; not only for the students having external examinations from the UK but for all students from Year 7 to Year 13. Below some pictures can be viewed from this event that took place in the school theatre.
1st Day at Kuwait National English School The school opened its doors for the first day of the new academic year on Sunday 4th September. Teachers were eager to meet the students and begin teaching ! the students were also very happy to see their old friends and make some new ones. The day commenced with new students going to the school theatre to register and returning students being escorted to their new classroom by members of staff; this was then followed by a full day of school! The enthusiasm of both teachers and students made the day a great start to the new academic year. The parents have the opportunity to meet the teachers at the Parent teacher evenings which take place in the school this coming week so come along and have a chat with your child's teacher. We look forward to welcoming you at the school.

Years 7/8 field trip to the "Scientific Centre" Years 7 and 8 students recently took part in a field trip to the Scientific Centre where they visited the Aquarium and the IMax theatre. They watched an educational film on many aspects of their scientific studies. They were accompanied by their Science Teachers Ms Banji Narula, Ms Diana and Ms Patricia. Excellence at AS Level One of our sixth form students was congratulated by the School Director on attaining excellent results in the first AS January modules which were organised through Edexcel Examinations Board. All of the students achieved very good results in Mathematics in particular 99/100 which were the best recorded in Kuwait for this year. Well done to all of those students and keep up the hard work !!!

Early Years Concert
Parents, friend’s members of staff and students were welcomed by the school director, Madame Chantal Al Garabally of Kuwait National English School on the occasion of the concert of the early Years Department where students from KG and Reception performed for the pleasure and pride of the audience. The school director, Madame Chantal Al Gharabally from Kuwait National English School from her own words said… Tonight we will observe actually how much your child is improving his/her language skills, especially English skills, how much he/she has developed his/her social skills, and got used to school habits. The Kuwait National English School Mission Statement has been put in the back of our programme tonight as many parents are not familiar with being new to Kuwait National English School it is mentioned that we are all part of the same human family and that is why we are trying to inculcate in your child from a young age a sense of solidarity, of cooperation, tolerance and become one day a responsible citizen of the world… Still from the words of Madame Chantal, …’’You have to be proud tonight about the achievement of your child, because all these young children are giving us a lesson, they are applying these moral values, they are working together closely, they are happy and friendly helping each other and forming a team which is the theme of their concert tonight’’… Both staff and students were thanked by Madame Chantal for their hard work and the floor was given to the children to perform their concert.
Primary Sports Day Kuwait National English School has started the season of sports days throughout the school. The ‘’little ones’ from the SEN Department enjoyed their sports day which took place in the sports courtyard of the school and the school gymnasium. Some representatives of the Disabled Society in Kuwait attended this event and talked to the secondary students about disabilities in sport. Kuwait National English School is hoping to build some strong links with more institutions.

Annual Festival
The school held its annual festival last week to raise money for the Tsunami victims who have been left without shelter, food and sanitation and exposed to any array disease etc. It was a fun filled day featuring raffles, scuba diving demonstration in the swimming pool; a magic show games and rides for the pleasure of the students, families and friends from the school. During the first week of March the school will be involved with UNESCO events and the National Commission of Kuwait as well as other Gulf states on the theme of "Peace and Non-Violence". On the 20th February we were extremely pleased and proud to welcome the General Director of UNESCO from Doha Dr Hamad Al Hammami and Dr Hassan from Kuwait who came to visit the school and to observe some classroom activities. We were complimented on the hard work that we have been doing in promoting the aims of UNESCO throughout the school community. Below are some scenes from this day.

Congratulations to the students and staff for their excellent results in the the mixed Benchball Years 5/6 competition. This was held for the members of KFSAC International schools Organisation. We at Kuwait National English School were the overall winners of the event. Well done to all who took part !!!!

Holy Quran Competition We are proud to announce the success last month of the "Reciting of the Quran" competition which was held for all of the foreign schools in Kuwait. As Director of the school, Madame Chantal Al Gharabally was extremely pleased with the school's achievements and congratulations have been sent to both staff and students on their success and ranking.

Students from the School took part in the "UNESCO" Mondialogo School Contest to promote and generate dialogue between students and teachers in different countries and continents. The students who were Sali Al Charif, Haya Al Omran, Margarita Chadrova and Maryam Moharem all from Year 10 formed the team representing Kuwait National English School team "The Arabian Knights" were twinned with the host school in Germany. The three main goals of the project were to: Increase awareness and appreciation of one's own culture Learn and appreciate other cultures Engage in an intercultural dialogue with students form another country. The team were engaged in communication by email with the German group of students, exchanged pictures, music and other cultural issues. The two schools worked on a shared project which was then submitted to the organisation last June. The team enjoyed the project and learnt much of the culture and way of life of the German students. The team received a certificate in recognition of their joint efforts. Congratulations to all the girls who were involved. Their picture is shown below:

World Heritage Day The school once again organised its "International and World Heritage Day" on 28th April. Students and Teachers at school put on displays, dressed up in traditional costume and shared a wonderful day experiencing different cultures, food, music and traditions of other nations. The school would like to thank parents, staff and the whole school community for their participation in this event which was also represented by UNESCO officials from Jordan. Omar Al Gharabally Scholarship
Omar Al Gharabally 7th April 1976 - 21 March 1996 "To Keep the memory of my son Omar alive, I have set up the Omar Al Gharabally Scholarship to help the most able students achieve what Omar will never be able to accomplish as his life was cut short.."
Year 12 and 13 students win 1st Prize in KISR Competition on "what do the youth expect from e-government" The winning students pictured above with Madame Chantal Al Gharabally, Director The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research organised for the first time a competition on the E Government which was sent to all schools and Kuwait University. The sixth formers from Kuwait National English School consisting of the Head Boy, Abbas Tuli and the school prefects, Hassan Elmi, Cenan Beshiri, Bio Dambo, Salah Hanbali, Rami Al-Soufi, Ali Al Duwailah, Mohammad Murad and Abdullah Al Humaidy worked hard to produce together a quality abstract, which was sent to KISR. This abstract was chosen and consequently, a presentation based on the abstract had to be prepared. On the 24th of December, an e-government conference was held at the Sheraton Hotel, aiming to give a first hand awarness of e-governement in Kuwait. The team members attended the conference on that particular day, the winners of the best abstracts were announced. Abdullah Al-Humaidy gave the presentation on behalf of the team. The KNES sixth formers were delighted to be given first prize in the event. As they came out of the event they said to themselves "that event sure was worthwhile after all the hardwork". Some expressed willingness to take part in similar sorts of new awareness conferences and competitions in the future. Each member was given a financial prize. Each member of the winning team from the sixth form of Kuwait National English School would like to convey their gratitude and appreciation to the KISR for organising such an event, to their School Director, Madame Chantal Al Gharabally for her enthusiasm on such a project and for encouraging them to take part in such a competition and their teachers for their guidance.
KNES wins 3rd Prize /3e Prix/ 3 Premio at UNESCO Competition The UNESCO organised last term a World drawing and painting Contest for children aged 4 to 7 years of age on "Draw me Peace" ,"Children colour the World". Kuwait National English School is very proud to announce that they won the third prize in that world competition, the winners were children from a Year One class.
