Class 2007 visit to Minister of Education

Some of the students from 'Class 2007' recently visited "Her Excellency Nuryah Sabih Barak Al Sabih,  Minster of Education" at her office to congratulate her and to invite her to the Graduation Ceremony in 2008.  The students also presented her with some gifts from the school on behalf of the students and Director Madame Chantal Al Gharabally.  Below a picture of the event

Botball Competition

On Thursday 3rd May a team of students Abdulrahman Akram Habiba, Abdullah Akram Habiba and Abdulaziz Akbar (Year 12 students) from the school participated in the "Botball Competition following their trip to Qatar early this term.  Our school team were awarded the prize for the best designed robot in the competition.  Well done our team !!!  The School Director offered her congratulations to the team KNES for their excellent performance in this event.

Reception Concert (Graduation)

The Reception and Early Years Dept put on an amazing performance this week with their concert that was alive and full of cheer... children where dressed in amazing outfits and performed songs and dancing (Arabic and English) along with the school choir who also delighted the audience with sopranos and other musical delights from "Les Choristes".  Following the concert came the "Graduation for the Reception and Early Years" all of the students were dressed in their academic gowns and hats.  See below

Read a Thon - we love reading....

Reading was the main priority for the Primary students who participated in their first ever Read a Thon competition.  Students from years 3 to 6 had to maintain a record of reading time outside of school time and proceeds that were raised will be used to purchase new books for the school.   Keep up the good work kids..... keep reading and reading !!!!

Students visit Governor of Hawally

Students form the Secondary school accompanied by their teachers visited His Excellency the Governor of Hawally, Abdulla Abdulrahman Al Faris to invite him to attend their graduation ceremony which will take place on 26th May in the school Theatre.  Below are some pictures of the Year 11 students on their recent visit:

 

 

 

 

International Day 2007

(we are a member of UNESCO schools project)

The school held its annual International Day on Saturday 5th May in the school theatre.  Students with the help of members of staff created some wonderful displays which highlighted major characteristics of many countries worldwide.  Many students who participated were dressed in traditional costume and there was also a wide selection of traditional food stuffs from the various locations and music, slide shows etc.   During the later part of the day a general knowledge quiz was organised which tested the students knowledge of the participating countries.  The School Director, Madame Chantal Al Gharabally would like to thank all who were involved in the organisation of this event which is also linked with the schools philosophy and objectives and UNESCO.  Please view the gallery (front page) for the main pictures of this event.

 

The Musical "Les Choristes"

The school proudly presented the musiclal "Les Choristes" on 23rd 24th and 25th of April in the school Theatre. 

The play, an adaption of the Oscar nominated and BAFTA award winning movie of the same name, chronicles the efforts of a new teacher at a residential boarding school for children with behavioural problems to create a school choir in order to bring happiness an direction into the lives of the children.

The play included some wonderful singing by students of our school from both the Primary and Secondary School as well as some supreme and talented acting.  The school Director would like to thank all of the staff and students who were involved in this production for all of their hard work and dedication.

Debate on 'Behaviour in Schools'

 

Some students from Year11 and 12 recently represented the school on Kuwait television in a debate on "Behaviour in Schools".  The picure above shows some of the students who took part including the Head Girl, Anood Afiri and the Head Boy Ahmed Maraghi with the Director.

 

Year 6 Transition evening at the School Theatre

On Monday, March 26, the school held its Year 6 Transition Evening to assist Year 6 students with their transition to secondary education. All members of staff from secondary, as well as members of the management team were present to explain to the students the changes in timetable, curriculum, and teacher expectations that they will face.   Some students from Year 7 also spoke at the Transition Evening offering advice based on their own experiences.  The School Director Madame Chantal Al Gharabally thanked all parents for attending the evening and  she stressed how important it was for not only the teaching staff but also the families of the students to take an active role in their education.

Lecture on Obesity

On Tuesday, March 27th,  the school held a seminar Obesity, Diabetes and high Cholestrol in Children. The seminar was given by the internationally acclaimed physician and author from France, Dr. Jean Yves Bourgoin, Specialist in Endocrinology, Nutrition, Obesity and Diabetes. Dr. Bourgoin spoke of the rising percentage of overweight individuals in the world and advised parents of the need to provide a healthy diet for their children. Dr Bourgoin also made reference to the healthy food choices available in the school cafeteria such as juice, salads and nutritional sandwiches made of brown bread. The Director of the school, Madame Chantal Al Gharabally thanked Dr. Bougoin as well as all who attended for their interest and concern about such an important issue.

Omar Al Gharabally Scholarship Examination

The school held its scholarship examinations for candidates applying for the next academic year 2007-2008.  There were a large no of candidates each hoping for a scholarship to attend the school.  The Omar Al Gharabally Scholarship was founded by the School Director in memory of her son Omar whose promising life was cut short when he was killed in a tragic road accident.  Madame Chantal hopes that the scholarship will give other students opportunities that Omar was unable to have because his life was tragically cut short.

Early Years Fashion Show

 On Tuesday March 20th, the school held its annual, Early Years show "Stepping Out In Style". Students in Pre-School, Kindergarten, and Reception classes entertained everyone with their great singing and incredible abilities on the catwalk for such a young age. The school choir also preformed, singing songs from the upcoming  musical production at the school "Les Choristers". Madame Chantal Al Gharabally, the School Director, to all the mothers presents at the school from Early Years that this performance was the best Mother's Day Present that they could receive .

 

Primary Sports Day

Primary Sports Day was held at the school on Tuesday 13th March and students took part in an inter-house competition.  The final results were 1st Neptune 2nd Venus 3rd Jupiter and in 4th place Saturn.  View the picture gallery for this event

Robotics Competition Qatar

 

The school was represented in Qatar recently by two Year 12 students who attended a seminar in Qatar at the Carnegie Mellon University.  The two students Abdulraham Akram Habiba and Abdulaziz Akbar traveled to Qatar with the Head Teacher to take part in the training seminar; they will now be taking part in the final competition later on this year.  There were only three schools  from Kuwait who attended this event.  Below some pictures of the students at the college.

On Tuesday 6th March,  Key stage 1 students performed a concert about the seasons, months of the year and time.  It was a wonderful event and Madam Chantal would like to convey her thanks to both Parents and members of staff for their support, effort and hard work in planning this event.

Secondary School Sports Day

 

The school held its annual Sports Day for Secondary student on Wednesday 7th March.  It was a terrific day with lots of great sporting activities.  The day was concluded by an exciting football match between the teachers and the students.

Swimming Championships

On Thursday 8th March the school hosted the KFSAC Junior Indivdual Swimming Championships.  The fantastic pool and facilities at the school made a great venue for this  event.

 

 

National Day celebrations

The school celebrated National Day by hosting a concert in the School Theatre.  It was a wonderful event with students taking part in traditional Kuwaitie dancing and singing. Many parents attended and were greeted by students dressed in traditional  Kuwaitie dress and costumes.  Coffee and sweets were offered during the show.

 

 

Open Boys Football Team

The school football team played in the KFSAC tournament and recently beat New English School and English School Fahaheel 2.1 and 2.0 and The English Academy 1.1. Below are some pictures of the School team with their coach Mr Chako:

A workshop was held On Thursday 23rd November for all teachers at the school.  This was a day when staff training was organised as part of the school professional development programme.  There were workshops presented on a wide range of topics including classroom management, preparing revision lessons, reading strategies and “active body – active mind” to name a few.

Remembrance Day

11th November

The school remembered those who died in wars around the world and sold poppies in the school as a mark of respect.  Below is a student who is selling poppies on this special day.

 

 

 

An assembly was held in the school theatre to celebrate Tolerance Day.  The assembly commenced  with the School Director Madame Chantal giving a speech and it was followed by students who recited poems on the subject of 'Tolerance' which had been written with their subject teachers to remember the importance of Tolerance in their everyday lives.  Below are some further pictures of this event:

Parent Teacher Evenings at Kuwait National English School

Kuwait National English School had its Parent/Teacher evenings on 9th - 13th September.  It was an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers of their children and to get a better understanding of the academic programme their children will be receiving at KNES.  The teachers at KNES were very happy to have the opportunity to share their goals and expectations with the parents as they believe parents and teachers must work together in order to make education more effective.  Below are some scenes from the evening:

 

First Day of School at Kuwait National English School in Hawally

Both staff and students at Kuwait National English School in Hawally arrived at school on Saturday, September 2nd with smiles on their faces, eager to start the new academic year. It was an opportunity to meet with old friends and a chance to make new ones as well. The students were also thrilled to see all the additions made over the summer, including the new pre-school classroom, the new outdoor play equipment and the covered Early Years Playground.

Graduation Reception Class of 2006

On Monday 15th May the school held its graduation ceremony for the 'Reception Class of 2006'.  It was a memorable evening complete with a concert performed by the students in the kindergarten and reception.  Madame Chantal Al Gharabally would like to extend her warmest congratulations to the graduating students as they continue their academic journey from KNES until they are ready to enter university.
